On the sales tax settings page, you’re able to tell Rivly which states we need to collect sales tax on your behalf for your customer orders. You can add new states by clicking here and entering the corresponding information including state tax registration number. Something important to note is that by default, Rivly collects sales tax based on the delivery address of the customer. Most states in the US use this destination-based sales tax collection, though there are a few states that use origin-based sales tax collection, meaning the sales tax of the business nexus or fulfillment center is used instead of the customer’s delivery address. For these origin-based states, please use the custom tax rate override so all orders in this state are charged this single origin-based sales tax rate.
As Rivly grows and begins to surpass certain state-specific thresholds set for marketplace facilitators, Rivly will begin to automatically collect and remit tax on your behalf for all orders in these states.
